This repair procedure takes a minimum of two men to complete. The second technician will hold / stabilize the screenroll tube once released from the end plate. The (2) end plate access panels are held in with magnets. Remove these access panels. Please note that first version VE Medio roller tubes had a steel idler pin pressed into the idler bearing while newer versions use a threaded idler pin to capture the idler bearing.
- Remove screenroll / ceiling cover assembly from mounting location. This assembly is held into the case with (4) nuts located on each corner of screen / bezel assembly.
Disconnect the modular motor cable connector. Lower unit to floor or table.
2. Remove “C” clip from motor mount (see photo Page 2 Fig. 1).
- Loosen 4 motor end plate nuts approximately 5 turns each. Slide back end plate about
an inch to release roller tube from bracket (see photo Page 2 Fig. 2). Lift screenroll
out and away from end plates. New version VEM units you can simply back out the
threaded idler pin to release the roller tube from the motor bracket.
4. Remove the Phillips head sideline attachment screw on the motor end of the roller
tube.
5. After the second tech has grasped and stabilized the idler end of the tube, remove the
motor drive assembly. You manually pull the motor / drive out of the roller tube.
6. Install the original motor drive assembly into the new screen roll assembly.
7. Tighten the sideline attachment screw on the new screenroll. Install new screenroll
assembly back onto the end plates. Make sure the motor’s limit switches are oriented
downward at the floor / screen slot.
8. Slide motor end plate back into position and tighten the 4 nuts. Install the “C” clip.
9. Reinstall the screen / bezel into the main housing and connect the motor plug to the
Molex connector socket. Peel off the masking tape from the paper roll and operate the
screen downward. Carefully watch and ensure that the screen tracks correctly
downward and that the side lines do not get tangled. If possible “stop” the motor as
needed to check for proper screen deployment.
10. Carefully operate screen and make any needed adjustments to the motors limit
switches. The “Yellow” limit switch adjusts the stopping position of the screen in
the up direction while the “White” limit switch adjusts the stopping position of the
screen in the down direction. Clockwise rotation of these switches will reduce stop
settings and a counter-clockwise rotation will increase the stop settings.
11. Do not allow the screen batten bar to contact the screenroll assembly to avoid screen
damage.
