The following screen adjustments may be used to help eliminate corner or side wrinkles on our large commercial screens. It will also help straighten the batten bar which could be bending downward because of excessively tight sidelines. After these procedures are applied to the screen, it may take some time (days) before they finally take effect on the screen material and show complete improvement. Use the screen as normal once these steps have been taken. To begin these steps, make sure that the screen is fully deployed.  

1. Lower The Batten – Reduce sideline tension

A. Use a screwdriver and a pair of pliers to pry open the “S” hooks on ends of batten.

B.  Remove the sideline chain from the “S” hooks and let out a few of the chain lengths. This procedure lengthens the side lines allowing the screen to slightly stretch downward. It will also help straighten out a downward curved batten. Some screens may require only 2 additional chain lengths to be let out and other larger screens may require 4 to 6 chain lengths to be let out. Make sure to make equal adjustments at both ends of the batten.  

      2. Close “S” hooks and Check Sideline Tension

A. The new sideline tension will not feel as taught as before starting this procedure. On some screens this sideline tension will feel non-existent or too loose. This is normal for the new batten setting position, and the sideline tension will increase as the screen “stretches” downward in the next few days.    

B. Use the pliers to close the “S” hooks. Use the screen as normal.

     3. Re-adjust Screen’s Deployment Setting (if needed)

A. If the screen’s batten now comes to rest on the floor or stage, it will be necessary  to make an adjustment         to the timing unit located under the motor mount.

B. Adjust the traveler on the timing unit to reduce the screen’s stopping point so that there is at least 4 to 6           inches of clearance between the batten and floor or stage.
